Our Location

Colombia’s Sinu River Valley is one of the best locations in the world to develop an agroforestry operation and grow high-quality, sustainable teak.

Colombia’s Sinu River Valley is one of the best locations in the world to develop an agroforestry operation and grow high-quality, sustainable teak. By sourcing our hardwood locally, Burro Teka’s sawmill enjoys a significant competitive advantage due to its lower transportation costs. Additionally, by sourcing regionally we are able to integrate our supply chain, while also fostering development in our beautiful country and contributing to the national economy.

The Sinu River Valley’s fertile soil provides the nutrients necessary to grow some of the highest quality teak in the world. This gives Burro Teka a competitive edge in the market due to lower start-up costs in regards to hardwood sourcing and Colombia’s strategic access to global markets.

With market momentum and international pricing on our side, the time is now ripe for Colombia to position itself as a key global supplier of teak and hardwood products.

Since the late ’90s, the Colombian government has incentivized sustainable forestry initiatives that include specific varieties of hardwood trees, notably tectanus grandis, or our very own teak. These incentives resulted in the reforestation of over 4 million acres countrywide. In the department of Cordoba alone, up to 1.2 million acres of land were designated for hardwood forestry and at least 10,000 acres were specifically dedicated to teak plantations.

These incentives are not only favorable for the environmental and for agribusiness, but they also allow for the further development of the region’s hardwood processing supply chains.

In short, we take pride in investing in our community just as we take pride in creating value for our investors. Thus, alongside our friends and stakeholders, we are well on our way to becoming a driving force behind Colombia’s movement towards sustainable, profitable, and environmentally conscious agribusiness development.

We strive to deliver a variety of high-quality teak products, including flooring, furniture, hardwood blocks, and decking at a competitive price.

Our blocks are cut to maximize teak yield, ensuring we get the most wood out of every tree that we process. The square cuts can be customized to suit customer needs, while also helping minimize waste. Once cut, the teak blocks are ready to be milled, carved, cut, or even glued in order to produce the teak product of your dreams.

If a company is looking for a durable and stylish construction material, our flooring and decking cuts are perfect for the task. Our thinner and ready-to-install teak planks are weather resistant and durable, making them perfect for marine decking and outdoor furniture.

At Burro Teka, we focus on giving our customers the very best cuts of timber, for whatever project they have in mind. Our current offerings allow for endless creativity while letting the natural beauty of the teak truly shine. While there certainly are opportunities for product line expansion in the future, Burro Teka is currently focused on delivering the best quality teak with every single cut.

Burroteka is proud to partner with local growers and teak plantations that have been active throughout the department of Cordoba for over forty years. Most of our teak will be sourced from family-owned hardwood forests and farms, which fosters both environmental responsibility and sustainable development, all while respecting the region’s rich heritage.

Apart from the rich agricultural heritage of the department of Cordoba, Burro Teka also benefits from its strategic location close to Colombia’s major Caribbean ports. Moreover, the farm operations from which we source our hardwoods are managed using the highest standards of agroforestry, and benefit from the incredibly fertile soils of the Sinu River Valley.

We are excited to be able to work closely with knowledgeable growers, allowing us to effectively contribute to our nation’s forestry programs. Together with Colombia’s hardwood experts, we are confident that we can deliver the highest quality teak, while also helping restore the savannah and rainforest in our area to its former glory.

In addition to providing valuable knowledge and high-quality commodities, our sourcing partners add value to Burro Teka’s project by hosting plantation tours and visits to our teak forests. These excursions allow investors and friends to witness firsthand our operations on the ground by visiting our state of the art sawmill as well as century-old teak forests. When visiting, our guests also get to enjoy the vibrant culture of the surrounding area, including the city of Monteria, which was awarded the prestigious Sustainable City of the Year Award by the UN in 2017.

The result? A win for investors, communities, and the enviroment.

Our Process
We believe the most important part of building a company is resilience! We expect it of our people and work hard to also ensure it for our forests.

We are a young, energetic team dedicated to commercializing teak in a sustainable manner and we are excited about the future.

We take pride in our seed-to-saw tracking system, which helps us ensure we are consistently in line with the highest conservation and industry standards. This approach allows us to guarantee the quality of every piece of wood that is processed by our saws.
